Dr. Cat Goyeneche
My name is Catherine (Cat) Goyeneche and I am a Licensed Health Service Psychologist. I have worked with diverse populations addressing a range of topics, including but not limited to: trauma, crisis, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship problems, racial identity development, self-esteem and self-worth, and life transitions and change (academic, career, relational, spiritual, physical/health).
A bit about my approach to therapy:
I have a strengths-based and multicultural approach to therapy. The most helpful therapy tends to include both support AND skills. I want to hear your story, understand you as a person, and then together, move toward the life you want.
What you can expect from our first session:
My clients typically tell me how much more hopeful they feel after one session. We will start with rapport building - it's important you feel comfortable sharing your story with me. We will explore how you're doing currently and what you want for your "ideal" self. I love asking the "miracle question": what will your life be like if all your problems were addressed? We will make a plan to get you there.
My Education & Training:
Postdoctoral Fellowship @ The University of Chicago
Doctoral Internship @ Duke University
Doctor of Psychology @ The Illinois School of Professional Psychology
Master of Arts in Psychology @ The Citadel Graduate College
Bachelor of Arts in Experimental Psychology @ USC
I spent 9 years total working in university counseling centers, most recently as Director of Training Programs at Duke CAPS, before transitioning into private practice in 2023. I have also worked in community mental health, intensive outpatient, and residential camp settings. I particularly love working with high achieving individuals and students of all kinds!
